Start by making the meat mixture
In a saucepan fill 1/4 of the pot with water
Add the ground meat.
With a fork break up the meat into the water, making sure the meat is completely covered by water.
While bringing to a boil, constantly break down with fork so meat doesn’t clump.
Once boiling, turn to low and add spices (salt, pepper, turmeric). Mix with fork.
Boil till very little water left. (Occasionally mixing).
While meat is cooking bring a large pot of water to boil.
Peel and dice potatoes and add to boiling water.
Once your potatoes are soft (if a knife can go through them easily) drain potatoes, making sure to leave some of the water in. This helps make the potatoes fluffy.
Mash the potatoes. Here is my mothers special step - take an immersion blender and blend till smooth !! (Just a few times)
Once potatoes are smooth, add in your spices, oil and lemon juice. Mix well.
Now it’s time to put it together.
On the bottom of a 9x13 pan put a layer of potato mixture (It should be half of the mixture and covers the whole bottom of the pan).
Next layer add you meat and spread.
Then add remaining potato mixture and spread till covered.
Whisk 1 egg lightly,
Pour on top of and spread around with a fork.
Take fork and make horizontal and vertical lines (like a grid) to leave a design.
Bake uncovered at 350 for an hour or until the top is golden brown.
