Make the meatball mixture:
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, minced onion, grated potato, egg, parsley, turmeric, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Mix just until evenly combined.
Scoop the mixture and roll into meatballs. Roll each meatball in breadcrumbs to lightly coat.
Heat a thin layer of oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Sear the meatballs for 2–3 minutes per side, until browned. Remove to a plate.
In the same pan, add the sliced onions and sauté until soft and golden (scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan for extra flavor).
Season with salt, pepper, a small dash of turmeric, and add ¼ cup water to create a light sauce.
Return the meatballs to the pan, nestling them into the onions. Cover and cook on low heat for 20–30 minutes, until the meatballs are cooked through and flavorful.
